Fundraising

We are accepting donations for all aspects of our monarch rescue operation; we’d love to expand next year! If you are interested in helping out with our mission, please use the contact form at the bottom of this post.

  • Habitat maintenance and expansion $20.00
  • Sponsor a chrysalis* $15.00
  • Milkweed purchase** (starting 2020, subject to availability) $10.00
  • General donation (choose amount)

*Everyone that sponsors a chrysalis will receive a certificate of appreciation with their name on it. We will post pictures of the chrysalides available to choose from, and updates as we capture them–remember, there is an element of luck involved in getting good pictures. We’ll do our best. Your certificate will include the emerge date and release date. Note: We have a future goal of tagging monarchs (we are not doing it yet!). If your monarch is selected for tagging, we will include the tag information on your certificate as well. Monarch Watch requests that only the strongest monarchs can be tagged so as to keep the amount of data in check, so we can not guarantee that your chrysalis will be chosen for tagging. And, of course, sadly not all chrysalides will make it. We will do our very utmost only to choose healthy-looking ones to place up for sponsorship, but just like capturing photos, there is an element of luck involved in whether or not a healthy adult will emerge. There is a lot that can go wrong. If the worst happens and yours does not emerge, or emerges and is unhealthy, we will choose another butterfly to share photos of in your honor.

**This one is a fun one we will be starting in 2020. Anyone that chooses this level of sponsorship: Barefoot Country Kids will take a trip to the gardening center and select a milkweed plant in your honor. We will plant it in one of our milkweed gardens with a plant stake labeled with a name of your choice (e.g., your last name, company name, or “In honor of”). We’ll post updates of your milkweed (showing the name of your choosing) in our blogroll throughout the season, hopefully with a lot of cats visible! In this case, the beauty will be in watching it dwindle down to stalks from being enjoyed by caterpillars, rather than a full, healthy-looking plant!

>At this time, we can only accept donations via PayPal. You can set up a free account with PayPal and send payments electronically for a very small fee (usually just a dollar or two, dependent upon PayPal’s policies).
